About Me
"It's temporary," my dear friend Nancy says as I bemoan yet another pound gained. That phrase has been a theme for me over the years. For example, in my mind, being a stay-at-home mom was going to be a temporary thing until the babies started school. 26 years later, three are in grad school and the "baby" is about to enter high school. Another has just started her professional career. Dear Nancy calls my house "the dorm" now because all but one returned after graduating from college.
My story is not a weight loss/weight gain one as the title may suggest. It is about raising a family in an era of entitlement and violence and terrorists invading our beautiful country. It is about holding together a family through gut-wrenchingly sad times as well as joyous ones. It has been a privilege to be able to "make my own hours" and be home when they came through the door each day. It is going to be beyond difficult to watch them leave as each graduates and makes their way in this world. They are all about to embark on their professional careers (except the "baby"). They are all doing well career wise and just as importantly have great big hearts and have become wonderful citizens.
Over the years, as I was about to share one of my pearls of wisdom, I would preface it with "the fat housewife says…". Whether or not I was fat at the time, this was my hash tag--a true pioneer I am!
My main career has been raising my children and I also like to take partial credit for my niece and nephew; the cousins were raised a block apart from each other and enjoyed the freedom to choose either house as home-base depending on which mom was in a better mood, had better snacks, or a better dinner.
I spent many hours in my kitchen and all the kids and their friends always made a pit stop there for a snack, a chat, a hug, a band-aid or sometimes just a quick wave before running to the basement video game haven.
My blog is not religious or preachy because I am neither of these things. I will fill it with stories of family, simple recipes for dinners, and bits of wisdom and anecdotes that will be of help to other moms in their quest to raise their children during these very turbulent times.
